returning to bolivia for one month on october 22.

Monday, February 21, 2005

no entries for a long time.  i'm in ohio, but am moving in 6 days to chicago.

i'm using this journal now to reflect.

everything that has happened today has made me want to go back to bolivia.

i spoke to 20some people in my parents' sunday school class about my experiences in cochabamba this morning.  the pictures and stories sent a flood of memories that i had to surpress.  had i not, i would have wept.

then the speaker in the service was a missionary in the naz church who spoke about church planting in africa.  completely different continent from south america, but similarly not the united states.  it's a big world, and somehow i've ended up back in the midwest.

tonight, molly and i stopped at barb and pat's house (close friends of molly's) and i chatted with pat about his upcoming mission trip to bolivia.  he's going with his church and will spend 9 days in cochabamba.  i've been to the hotel where his group is staying and i know the city very well, so we chatted for a while.

this has all left me completely heart sick.  i never expected to miss bolivia like i do.

the kids, judy, linda and i played duck, duck, goose, cat & mouse, and other such games today instead of having classes. ken and the teens played something with a water gun (like a super soaker). i'm not sure what they were doing, but julie ended up soaked. everything is more fun with water. we're planning on having some sort of water fun day sometime soon. water is such a luxury to the kids that they aren't able to just play in it. since our property is on a hill, we want to put up a huge slip-n-slide! that would be so much fun!!!

i seriously have as much fun playing as the kids do. life is so good when you can be 24 years old and still play like a 5 year old.

it's only tuesday morning and i am already behind on what i need to do this week.

we've got a new girl.  judy from texas arrived yesterday morning.  she's here for 10 months, which means, when ken and i leave in december, it will be just her and julie.  she's the nice wholesome texas type.  i'm sure we'll corrupt her.  we're also expecting a girl from germany, katherine, this coming monday.  she'll be here for 3 months to work with us too.  she speaks a decent amount of english, but i'm not sure about spanish.

today is the day of the student, so we're expecting a lot of kids.  we've decided to just have a fun day with games and relays and whatnot.  ken and julie have been teaching the teens some basic english, so they are going to play twister in english today.  i'm hoping/planning to join in on the twister fun.

anyone from back home remember fisher and drew playing twister at my halloween party last year?

julie had some money sent to her for the specific purpose of buying something for the kids.  so yesterday, she and ken went and bought 2 little tykes playsets.  they got a play house and a climbing thing with a slide.  the kids love it!  we've gotten rid of the swingset because of frequent bloody noses and 2 broken arms.  i can't quite grasp why a swingset is so dangerous down here, but the kids are always getting hurt.  it just got to be too much...too dangerous.  i'll email you some pictures of the new stuff in a couple of days.  they're so great.
